Bells at Killcare is the gorgeous Hampton’s style boutique hotel only 90 minutes from Sydney. This is one of Australia’s top luxury weekend getaways.
Bells at Killcare is the perfect hotel for the luxury traveller. A short drive from Sydney, located in the heart of Bouddi Peninsula, the 25 private suites and villas are made for ultimate privacy, a place to clear your mind and relax. Stunning gardens, manicured grounds and natural flora and fauna, which you can view from your private deck, sipping on that wine or champagne, Bells at Killcare is a world class boutique hotel and great for that quick weekend escape.
Offering a high end level luxury and comfort the boutique property is decorated in a Hampton’s style white and blue. Not only are the rooms in this style, but around the pool and lobby too so it is consistent. The attention to detail is outstanding and from the moment you drive into the property, a sense of relaxation takes charge.
Getting to Bells at Killcare is an easy 90 drive from Sydney. For that extra level of luxury you are also able to take a seaplane from Rose Bay. The 30 minute flight will take you over the beautiful Northern Beaches, landing at Hardy’s Bay where a short transfer awaits. Option 3 is via helicopter, where you are able to land onsite (with approval prior to arrival).
Situated on the door to the Bouddi National Park, Bells at Killcare, offers a natural playground from which you can explore. Stunning bushland, incredibly beautiful beaches and breathtaking views along the coast, pack your walking shoes, swimming gear and camera if you want explore the region.
25 private luxury suites, cottages and villas are sprawled across the property. You can drive your car and park directly infront of your room which we really thought was great. During our weekend, we stayed in a Lakeview Villa that is set in a very private environment at the end of the property, with views of the lake from your lounge room and private balcony.
The Lakeview Villas offer a large room that is exquisitely designed (with Ralph Lauren designed furnishings) where the king bedroom and living areas are separated by a partitioned wall. Both the bedroom and living room have a TV, perfect for catching up on the latest movies, with the living room also housing a gas fireplace, perfect for those cold nights (or days). The ensuite bathroom is large, maybe a bit too large with a lot of open space, has a separate shower and freestanding bath, and also a his and hers basin.
If you can’t make it to The Hampton’s then Bells at Killcare has you covered. The blue and white day beds around the pool, trendy umbrellas and the self serve pool bar are all inspired by The Hampton’s. Sitting out in the sun, reading a copy of Signature Luxury Travel or a book is why you come here to relax.
The pool is beautiful, although not heated, which we found out the hard way after jumping straight in (at the end of winter). The Pool Bar is self serve, based on the honesty system and offers beers, fine wines and all the ingredients for making a cocktail.
The Bells Day Spa also has that amazing Hampton’s elegance that you see all around the property. The spa offers many relaxing treatments, inspired from the local area and Aboriginal techniques where specifically chosen LI’TYA, Aspect and LaGaia Spa products are used. As your massage beings a traditional smoking ceremony welcomes you for the ultimate relaxation and an experience that you must add to your stay.
As with any 5 star property, service is a major key as to how it succeeds. It can make or break a hotel and can be the difference between a hotel that is just very nice or something that is completely memorable.
Bells at Killcare has set a very high standard and from the moment you arrive, you come to realise that everyone who works there has a genuine care. The check in staff were welcoming and showed us a map of the local areas and their recommendations for bush walks, beaches and cafes.
At breakfast, the restaurant manager was on site and on both mornings made an effort to see how our stay was going and if there was anything else that could be arranged.
With all staff on site, there was a high attention to detail, and a cheerfulness that made us and guests around us feel comfortable.
Food and Drinks
Bells at Killcare has also made a name for itself from the restaurant on site. Located in the Manor House, known for it’s authentic Italian cuisine, the chef and hotel put a huge focus on sustainability. The menu continually changes, based on the produce that is grown from the garden, that can be seen from the enclosed balcony of the restaurant. Breakfast is also served daily in the main restaurant with the choice of continental breakfast options and/or hot menu items.
Room service is another option throughout the day or for dinner but we found the menu to be limited, although all options we tried very tasty.
With the Bouddi National Park on your doorstep, head out for one of many amazing bush walks that will take you to some of the most amazing viewpoints along the coast. The hotel will also prepare a picnic for you to take for the day including cheeses, meats, dips and of course wine.
A short 40 minute drive from Bells at Killcare is Glenworth Valley. Head here for outdoor adventures including horse riding, quad biking, kayaking or abseiling.
We could not have had a better weekend at Bells at Killcare. It’s a romantic luxury boutique retreat which is catered towards couples (and not kids), it’s the perfect place to relax for the weekend. The property, gardens, pool and rooms are absolutely stunning with that East Coast Hampton’s style luxury and because it’s a boutique hotel, you are more than a number. You leave feeling refreshed, relaxed and happy.
